The idea for this album was to blend a rock ensemble into cinematic underscore. I especially wanted to add electric guitar, drums and electric bass into the mix. These are not fast moving action scenes but rather longer background cues that build slowly over a long time AND have a part B to cut too when a change is needed. These are mostly textural cues that sense time through a steady ticking rhythm.

Malignant is very underscore. The electric bass plays a monotonous pedal tone while the piano plays just two notes back and forth. Written for mystery, suspense, searching, plotting, or a CSI investigation, there is a gnawing simplicity until finally the piano starts playing chords that create a tension against the plodding pedal notes. It slowly rises to a melody and a break in the middle. As the cue hits the ending section there is a bit of resolution that seeps into the music. 74 bpm

This cue starts with a neutral but also sparkling arpeggio on the guitars.The cue is on a steady build so it can stay in the same place, slowly build, or cut to a new phrase. There is a 40 second intro to this cue. The intro is a nice clean electric guitar. This intro is like a scene setting piece that just alerts the listener to a somewhat neutral place as the protagonist readies their response. This intro feels like the protagonist is gathering up their tools for the upcoming fight. @:44 the music becomes a plodding march through the plan for revenge. Its a slow and thorough task.
